The SCRiM Summer Scholars Program enables selected undergraduates and early career graduate students to work on independent research projects under the mentorship and support of SCRiM researchers.

The 2019 SCRiM Summer Scholars assisted in creating a variety of tools and products for the Coastal Climate Extension Program. They worked out of the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) under the supervision of Pamela Braff, Coastal Climate Extension Specialist at VIMS/Penn State, and Robert Nicholas, Associate Research Professor at Penn State.

Ella Kasten
Ella Kasten

Ella will graduate in May 2020 from the College of William & Mary with a degree in Biology and Environmental Design. She was a summer Scholar from May 28 to December 15. In addition to assisting with the climate resilience tool inventory, Ella designed locality specific factsheets to describe the potential impacts of climate change in coastal communities along the Chesapeake Bay. The factsheets provide trends and projection for temperature, precipitation, and sea level as well as explanations for how these changes may impact infrastructure, human health, and natural resources.

Kendall King
Kendall King

Kendall graduated in May 2019 from the College of William & Mary with a degree in Geology. She was a Summer Scholar from May 28 to Sep 13. Kendall worked to develop an inventory of local climate resilience tools for coastal communities along the Chesapeake Bay.

Deborah Kornblut
Deborah Kornblut

Deborah graduated in May 2019 from the College of William & Mary with degrees in Environmental Policy and Government. She was a Summer Scholar from May 28 to Sep 13. Deborah worked to develop an inventory of local climate resilience tools for coastal communities along the Chesapeake Bay.

Claire Rae
Claire Rae

Claire received her Associate Degree of Arts and Science from Rappahannock Community College in Summer 2018, and will graduate in Fall 2020 from the College of William & Mary with a B.S. in Geology, and Environmental Science and Policy.
